Both The Blood of Poet and Testament of Orpheus are StudioCanal titles and the US home video rights belong to Lionsgate.

For the completists out there, BN.com still has the DVD set in stock and as a part of the current 50% off sale, though with the exception of maybe a couple of the written extras on Blood of a Poet and Testament of Orpheus, all of the extras look like they're being re-released with the upcoming Blu-ray/DVD of Orpheus.

Re: 66-69 The Orphic Trilogy
Extras do sound tempting, but my Orphic DVD box will do me, doesn't appear to be a huge improvement in picture judging by that review.

Re: 66-69 The Orphic Trilogy
So the new subtitles have Cegeste saying "I'll kick your ass" twice during the cafe brawl. How very French, how very 1950. But that pales in comparison with this: now, when Orpheus asks the older poet for his advice, instead of repeating the iconic expression originally attributed to Apollinaire, we get "Surprise us."
Criterion takes such pains on image and sound, but when it comes to doing translations they just don't seem to give a damn.

Re: 66-69 The Orphic Trilogy
Has anyone else listened to the commentary on this yet? I tried getting through it but found it very tiring. I'm just starting to listen to all the commentaries on discs I own, and this is the first one I couldn't sit through. Though I found the information very helpful/new to me at points, the way it's delivered kind of drags and there are so many pauses I found it very disengaging.

The one on Orpheus? I didn't find it dragging at all, I thought it quite engaging and interesting.

Re: 66-69 The Orphic Trilogy
I've wanted to see this for years because I've always loved this single cover. Netflix sent the old DVD from the boxset, but I thought for an older DVD it still looked pretty good.
Loved the film. Thought the modern retelling was really interesting, the Angels of death zooming through on motorcycles. And I loved how strong the imagery was and how it was done through relatively simple but very effective effects - the backwards film, the sliding across the walls, Morris as water and water as mirrors, and how they'd go in and out of mirrors.
Definitely adding the newer Blu Ray to my wish list for the next sale. The DVD was very light on features plus I can see myself rewatching it a lot

Re: 66-69 The Orphic Trilogy
I found a mint copy of this boxset going for 50C$.
Have anyone heard of possible 'Sang d'un poète' and 'Testament d'orphée' Blu upgrades?
Thanks in advance.

Re: 66-69 The Orphic Trilogy
Criterion lost the rights to those two films, so they will not be upgraded by Criterion Collection. I also have never heard of them being restored, so there's no reason to believe another company will put out a BD in the near future.
