Wow, that was close! Thanks, ben d, for bringing this to our attention.

Did Amazon honour the mis-price? Have they shipped the set? A real bargain!

Mine hasn't shipped yet, but I haven't received any e-mail saying the deal was off. Fingers crossed!

My pleasure, I couldn't hog a deal like that all to myself. I've yet to see Amazon bail on a listed price (well, Amazon.ca can be a tad dodgy but they give into any complaints) so I suspect we shall all receive our 80% off.

My rather obvious Amazon tip is to keep anything you want in your shopping cart and just check it for the discounted price notice to pop up.

Is there a reason to think this was indeed a misprice? They have dropped prices like this before to spike volume etc...

I received mine (X3), it being a misprice is just a hunch on my part, no real evidence!

Misprice or not, I still... missed it... $#!%

Anyway, how are the transfers on the Apu discs? And, is there any reason to believe that the films will be remastered anytime soon?

A newly restored print of Pather Panchali was screened in Cannes earlier this year. Also, the region 1 DVDs went out of print some time ago, so I wouldn't be surprised if a new (Criterion?) release is in the works.

On topic again, here's a note to European members (they don't seem to ship outside the EU) to check out blahdvd.com for more AE bargains. Amongst others they have Werckmeister Harmonies, Mirror and The Son for £7.99 shipped.

Not bad, actually. Not outstanding, either. But they're far superior to the R1 Sony releases and probably look about as good as anybody (other than a Criterion or MOC) could do considering that the original negatives no longer exist. All in all, I'd say it's worth the investment if you can spare the money. There are some nice extras, too.

Indeed, and it looks like the disc will also include the 20 minutes Scenario.

"Great!" I thought, until I followed the link and read this:
Aspect Ratio : Anamorphic Wide Screen
Grrr! Hopefully this is a mistake. I'm pretty certain OAR is 1.33 (or 1.37).

I've just emailed AE asking about aspect ratio, and will post any response. But the frame enlargements from the film in Kristin Thompson's book Breaking the Glass Armor are in 1.66, as are those for Tout va bien. So (as I understand it) either they were shot in this ratio or hard-matted during printing. This is different from the case of Masculin feminin, which Willy Kurant explains on the Criterion DVD was shot in 1.33, with the possibility that projectionists might mask to 1.66 when they showed it.

The release has now been put back until January 23rd 2006. I hope it does come then, but as Art Eye have had this title scheduled for a DVD release on and off since October 2003, the date is best viewed with caution.

I don't think these titles have been mentioned. They are all £8.97 on Amazon.co.uk:

- Weekend (Godard) £8.97
- End of Summer (Ozu) £8.97
- The Son (Dardenne) £8.97

And if I didn't already own it, this is the best deal of them all:
- Werckmeister Harmonies / Damnation (Tarr) £8.97

Several others also at the same price of £8.97 appear when you search for Artificial Eye.

Hmm. Amazon sent me an email today saying my Apu trilogy discs would be delayed from shipping for another week or so. I guess they sold out of it pretty quickly. As long as I eventually get it though...

I really regret not getting it from Benson's World a while back. I think it was around £8. I did get the AE Stalker for around that price...
