I would trust your impression of Baskin over mine, as I do remember being quite a bit distracted on my initial viewing by other matters outside of the film which may have been why only the torture moments made an impact, so I really need to go back and give it a fairer shot at some point. But at the moment I do like The Void a bit more.

The Stunt Man is great! I remember Channel 4 television in the UK doing a great season of Hollywood satirical films around 1994 ("Hollywood Dreams") where they showed S.O.B., Hollywood Cowboy (aka Hearts of the West, with Jeff Bridges), Barton Fink, White Hunter Black Heart and Hollywood Shuffle (and I think Postcards From The Edge?), and always thought that it would fit in very well with that company! (Particularly in a double bill with Hollywood Cowboy)

I don't think I've even heard of half those films, at least the ones with Hollywood in the title.

Hollywood Shuffle (NSFW) is the satire on black actors in Hollywood that is just as scathing as Bamboozled! Robert Townsend directed this the same year as the Eddie Murphy: Raw concert film, and went on to The Five Heartbeats and B*A*P*S (and, ahem, a Bill Cosby "comeback concert" in 2013). Just as important is that it was the first film written by Keenan Ivory Wayans long before the Scary Movie films, Little Man and White Chicks made that a worrying rather than exciting thing! But going back to Hollywood Shuffle, the Sneaking In the Movies sketch is a great parody of Siskel & Ebert, though with better chemistry!

Here's the trailer for Hollywood Cowboy, under its US "Hearts of the West" title, directed by Howard Zieff who would go on to Private Benjamin and the two My Girl films! White Hunter, Black Heart is the film where Clint Eastwood plays African Queen-era John Huston.

And of course S.O.B. is the Blake Edwards film which was the subject of a great Family Guy joke, though the joke involved mixing up which Julie Andrews film they were talking about!

Hollywood Shuffle paved the way for In Living Color and while it’s only sporadically successful, the bits that land are good enough to sit through the dry patches. Also, he funded it all from acting gigs and borrowed film stick and it was a true indie feature meant to be a calling card to advance in the very industry he sends up. In addition to Colin’s rundown, Townsend also went on to develop and star in the Parent ‘Hood, a more realistic Family Matters-Type black family sitcom. Tyler Perry gets a lot of credit for addressing the black community directly, but Townsend absolutely laid the ground work for much of the popular black entertainment options in America (and he beat Black Panther to the black superhero movie too with Meteor Man)

Thanks for the history lesson guys, but I think you've walked into an area of film & TV I just don't connect with (being sitcoms/sketch comedy) at all. I've seen White Hunter, Black Heart of course (and My Girl :) ), though I just generally find the (primarily US) approach to satire way too broad for my taste. Perhaps sadly, when you mentioned Robert Townsend, I thought, "what, the guy who did Chinatown?". The Spike Lee film I recall really liking, but after seeing his latest, I'm not sure my taste hasn't changed too much to go there again.

And multiple maxed-out credit cards. I remember him appearing on Jonathan Ross’s chat show and being asked what he’d have done if the film had flopped, and Townsend replied “I’d have gone to jail, man!”

I haven’t seen Hollywood Shuffle since it originally came out - in fact, it was almost certainly that interview that persuaded me to give it a go. I don’t remember much about it, but I do remember thoroughly enjoying most of it.

Severin has followed up the WTF of Al Adamson getting a 30+ film box with a truly W T F (For Severin, not necessarily in general) release

David Gregory was on the most recent episode of the Shock Waves podcast and announced Overboard and explained how they came to license it. He said he was talking with some friends and one said how much she loved it. He responded to her saying how awful the film's politics are. So, the next time he was bidding on some MGM titles, he drunkenly and jokingly put Overboard on the list and MGM accepted his bid.

If it's a critical special edition pointing out the obvious issues with the material, that might actually be interesting!

Hearing that Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh is far from stellar, not much better if at all than the Shameless.

Can anyone confirm?

All the Colours... was a good one, I can verify that, although some moaned about the aspect ratio. I was happy with the detail and of course the colours being apparently intact.

Listing to the Severin podcast and they mentioned that they got the master from StudioCanal, but not what company they licensed the film from.

SC released it via Optimum in the UK in their Delon box, which is how I saw it. Could have different rights stateside? Would be great if they access to that catalog too though

Now that I think about it, Severin is going to do a Black Emanuelle box set and I'm pretty sure those films are StudioCanal in the US.

When I first glanced at the announcement, I thought maybe it was the Rocky Horror quasi-sequel.

Has Severin ever done a studio film?

Ashanti (1979) was a Columbia Pictures, Beverly Films, and Warner Bros. co-production, distributed by Warner Bros. There's also The Stunt Man (1980), which was made independently by Melvin Simon Productions but distributed by 20th Century Fox.

I didn’t recall liking it all that much but then a board search reveals 2008 me thought otherwise

Have you seen Flic Story or Shock Treatment though, they're really good.
I remember nothing about it other than that it’s set on an island/shoreline. May have to pick it up to see if I was right
