Absurdly priced limited edition of Popcorn coming soon-- and they relegated the unforgettable original box art to the back and replaced it with garish-looking original art

I like Synpase's dedication in the technical work they perform but their steelbooks are all vastly overpriced (but they still sell seemingly quite well, so why should they lower the prices ?).

Oh, I know, it was purely rhetorical but also a bit cynical towards my fellow BD enthusiasts who have created a market for these overpriced steelbooks.

Many years ago, my dad took me on a “birds and the bees” trip. Among other things, he asked if I wanted to watch a horror film. This film was that horror film - my first R-rated horror film (maybe my first horror film period).

So, I’m strangely attached to it, have a poster, and share a name with the monster!

It will be nice to retire my R4 DVD for a Synapse edition blu!

I’m delighted that the box artwork for Indicator’s upcoming Hammer titles makes a point of including the original X certificates, even though they mostly get PGs and 12s these days.

I forgot to mention that one of the titles that Kim Newman's website leaked was a new 4K restoration of The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue by Synapse Films. Said restoration will be premiering at the Fantasia Film Festival.

Don told the crowd at the Fantasia Film Festival that Synapse is going to release a new restoration of Tombs of the Blind Dead in the 2nd quarter of 2020.

As usual with Synapse, so much for whatever they said they wouldn't do 1 or 2 years ago.

If they get David Mackenzie to encode (and I can't imagine they wouldn't), this could be the best looking disc on the home video market. I'm very excited.

While it's being mentioned here I might as well ask. I'm familiar with Mackenzie's name due to a few titles he's done encoding for (specifically the UK release of Mulholland Drive) and he's been raved about due to his skills in his field. What exactly does he do/follow that makes him reputable when it comes to encoding?

He's the single best in the field right now (as far as I'm concerned) at grain management and compression. I remember a video (at least, I'm pretty sure it was a video? I can't find it now.) in which he demonstrated his encoding process for a Mondo Vision release, and the amount of work he put in to make sure the grain structure was kept intact was astonishing. Basically, if he's encoding a disc, it's going to look as close to the source as possible.

EDIT: I still don't think this is the video I was looking for, but check out this interview at about 1:05 in.

I assume that the costs to produce a UHD disc have gone down enough and the sales of Synapse's Suspiria Blu-ray have flattened out, that they have decided it is worth it to release this to test the market.

I'm happy for any others that this may excite, but I'm fine with the current blu-ray Synapse released. I really just want them to finish THE KINDRED.

Yeah, I’ve been waiting patiently for The Kindred for what, almost 2 years now?

Still picking up the UHD Suspiria, though.

Cheapest pre-order price for Suspiria: $29.97 at Bull Moose.

It is also up at WowHD for £33.37

The MSRP is rough, $29.97 is a nice compromise
