Godzilla Raids Again? I don't think so. Maybe a hidden gem we don't know about.

Re: The Mystery of the Phantom Web Pages
I seriously doubt it's anything other than Godzilla Raids Again so put my name in that corner. I mean looking at his filmography it's the one that stands out the most and Gojira is already in the collection. Criterion is a creature of habit after all. I'll eat crow if wrong.

Since most of the random Phantom pages are for stuff that end up on Filmstruck, it wouldn't surprise me if the Motoyoshi Oda page is only for a Godzilla theme on Filmstruck

Re: The Mystery of the Phantom Web Pages
I've been wondering what's been going on with Classic Media - they haven't put anything out since their constant re-release of the Frosty &friends blus in 2015. Looks like they were bought by DreamWorks (in 2012), but Criterion licensed Godzilla from Classic Media + their logo has been turning up in places. Classic Media retained the rights to the Godzilla films post-Westchester & Shout (which was a streaming deal), and they've been airing on Svengoolie with the Classic Media logo (along with Gargoyles).Cinephrenic wrote:Godzilla Raids Again? Here's what Classic Media holds:
Gojira / Godzilla, King of the Monsters
Godzilla Raids Again
Mothra vs. Godzilla
Ghidorah: The Three-Headed Monster
Godzilla vs. Monster Zero
Terror of Mechagodzilla
Rodan
Godzilla's Revenge
War of the Gargantuas
any others??
Granted, Gojira is certainly the most Criterion-y of the entire franchise (although I'd make the case for Godzilla vs the Smog Monster), but these are all guaranteed big sellers and competent films. They've done plenty of other Japanese genre pics (samurai / noir) + done the Shochiku horror Eclipse set. I can't imagine Criterion turning any of these down. Even if this is just initially for Filmstruck - I'm wondering where they'll eventually go, as Classic Media / Dreamworks certainly will never release them (they already missed their best opportunity to market these: when the new American film came out - and every other company was releasing everything Godzilla, except Classic Media).
Now I can hold out hope for a Criterion of Godzilla's Revenge (my favorite of the series)!

Two more that I recall. Son of Godzilla and Destroy all Monsters. Used to watch these after school on our local ABC channel when they programmed Monster Week.

Re: The Mystery of the Phantom Web Pages
I wasn't aware of the rights so thanks for all this info. Being a child of the nineties I vividly remember my father recording MonsterVision on TNT so I could watch all the amazing cheese that was in it. I'd love a box set of Kaiju films. War of the Gargantuas is absolute cheese of the highest order. They are certainly not what I would consider high art but they're certainly an important part of film history and I'm sure they'd sell well.Minkin wrote: Here's what Classic Media holds:

Maybe we'll finally see another eclipse set? I think that'd be ideal (at least for me) for something like that.

You guys know they aren't spoilers if the titles have been announced, right?

Thanks Domino. Never understood why posters use the spoilers in the most spoilery thread on this forum.mfunk9786 wrote:You guys know they aren't spoilers if the titles have been announced, right?

I just follow(ed) the style which is popular in this thread. I think it's silly too, but IIRC somebody complained about them ruining announcements for some reason?

I'm not sure why I was (mistakenly or sarcastically) thanked, I'm 100% against spoiler tagging titles in this thread, but I think another mod prefers it?

Not sarcastic at all. It's just for pointing out the obvious.
Why would someone click on this thread not wanting to know or suspecting to know what is coming. Doesn't make sense.

Re: The Mystery of the Phantom Web Pages
I recognize this doesn't really narrow anything down, but it looks like this block was probably for some kind of Universal package. Wyler's and Arnold's films are all Universal, Brando was immediately before (One Eyed Jacks) and J. Hughes after (we know the two Universal ones are coming). Which narrows the H. Hughes down to Hell's Angels, probably means Zemeckis is I Wanna Hold Your Hand. Not too helpful, I know, but just struck me after being reminded of the Arnold page in the thread for the Arrow release that was announced today.

Oh, whoops, was misreading the Wikipedia list. I still think the context indicates it'll be a Universal title, relatively unexciting as they may be.

It most likely will be The Heiress, a Paramount picture under Universal's vast library of 1930's and 1940's Paramount titles acquired years ago.Ribs wrote:Oh, whoops, was misreading the Wikipedia list.
