A screening of a "Gaumont restoration" was also announced in the Cannes classics lineup today - presumably this is the same new restoration.

It's surprising it's only now getting a Cannes Classics slot while it was restored in 2013.

Its star's recent 100th birthday may have been a catalyst.

The Cannes site suggests it's part of a Danielle Darrieux birthday tribute. She's 100 this month.

That actually looks okay given that it's likely the same scan as before.

The BFI was well aware of this film's troubled BD release history.

This is only a minor change but I do like the look of the BFI disc quite a bit better than the Gaumont. Triple-dipping at some point this year.

I suppose that Gaumont won't licensed ever again their first restoration. I'd be surprised if they even kept it somewhere.
However, it seems like they still have 2 restored masters commissioned : one degrained (used on the French disc) and one untouched (used by the BFI). It's a shame, I thought they discontinued that. (or maybe it's an encode question ?)
