"I don’t know how I got into this," Allen said. "I have no ideas and I’m not sure where to begin. My guess is that Roy Price will regret this."
Typical Woody. He's probably got 5 complete film scripts in his desk drawer.

I know almost everyone is willing to work with him, but I didn't know that he was willing to work with almost anyone

Miley Cyrus in a starring role and the return of Elaine May - my face is split between horror and elation.

I sort of thought Miley Cyrus had taken a sharp reputation turn, but perhaps not here. Most recently she's been hand-picked as one of the two (with Kanye West) contemporary artists to be featured on the 40th anniversary SNL special, and she was neck and neck with Jenny Lewis in the charm department in Bill Murray's Christmas special. She's been touring with the Flaming Lips, and while [what is perceived as] her depravity and experimentalism is on sharp uptick, her mainstream cachet has been falling away to sort of a scrappy credibility as a, well, pretty cool woman - and I really can't believe I'm saying that. Genuinely great singing voice, too.

I also can't hear the name Miley Cyrus without thinking of this brilliant little Kyle Mooney short film from SNL last year, which is about the strongest campaign video for the above that I can come up with

I don't think Cyrus' reputation has improved all that much.

This sums up my impressions of her critical stature.

EDIT: Due to an unusual character in that link, I'll have to post it here in order for it to work: http://www.wbez.org/blogs/jim-derogatis ... iley-cyrus" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;’-dead-pets-112849

From The New Yorker in September: Miley Cyrus' Quest for Realness. Certainly the sort of piece that's left open-ended, but I have no beef with Cyrus and certainly have moved beyond "yuck, MILEY CYRUS?!"-style reactions when she's mentioned as being involved in something like this.

Remember that he wanted to cast Tonya Harding at one point? Honestly, I'd prefer a washed up, white trash athlete/criminal to an intolerable pop star. My curiosity in this project has plummeted.

re:miley - He may be in on the joke. Don't discount that he may want to use her persona either stereotypically as a foil, or perhaps attempt the impossible by casting her "against type". He might also be a dirty bird.

Have you guys forgotten about Elizabeth Berkeley? I know the Woody is a dirty old man theory is unpopular here, but he doesn't shy away from "stunt" casting.

The cinematographer for Allen's Amazon series, which is currently being filmed, is Eigil Bryld, whose credits include In Bruges, Not Fade Away, the TV series House of Cards, and the upcoming Tulip Fever.

The series is called Crisis in Six Scenes, will premiere on September 30, and has the following logline
Amazon wrote:Crisis in Six Scenes is a comedy that takes place in the 1960s during turbulent times in the United States when a middle class suburban family is visited by a guest who turns their household completely upside down.

Already more laughs in that minute and a half than in the entirety of To Rome With Love

I don't recall there being even one laugh in that excuse for a film. In fact it made me rather angry and sad as I managed to avoid most of Allen's post 2000 films and this was my first introduction to his shitty European tour films (with the exception of Match Point and Midnight in Paris obviously)

Any theories on the likelihood of a Blu-Ray/DVD physical release eventually? I am a Prime subscriber and will be streaming this but as a Woody completist (and call me old fashioned), I really want a copy of this sitting on my shelf with all my other Allen films.

Woody did warn everybody; and pretty sure Jeff Bezos can still afford it! Seeing Elaine May and Woody Allen in 60s period setting is intriguing enough, though six episodes of Miley Cyrus will test anyone's patience.
