Re: An American Werewolf in London
Rewatched this on Vudu this afternoon, the copy almost certainly is Universal's older serviceable print: the film still holds up but for me it's strongest in the first 20-30 minutes mainly because Naughton and Dunne have excellent chemistry. The hospital section could have benefited from slight trimming (the nightmare scene involving the shooting of his family adds little IMO, as does the immediate follow up scene) and after the transformation it loses quite a bit of steam but the comedy is good from start to finish (my favourite bits include the sargent knocking off some equipment in the Doctor's office and it drops to the floor with as much noise as possible, and the reactions to David in the zoo, especially from the posh old woman are priceless) and the film has an excellent cast, particularly Jenny Agutter and Dunne.

Doesn't the film explicitly show him leaving both the internal and external doors open when he's pacing around beforehand?

I just YouTubed it, and, Jesus Christ, I think you’re right. I obviously remember the pacing and restlessness, but

during the transformation, the front door does, indeed, seem to be ajar. I guess he was hot, too...? Anyway. Mystery solved!
