I only learned about this after I placed my order, but you can get 10% off using the code FILMSTORIESCAMP if you spend over £30

That works on pre-orders also, to bring down the Trip to Moon or the Game releases to still be absurdly overpriced but maybe the crazy high shipping won't be as much of a burden.

I love Tale of Cinema and mostly like WItFoM a lot.L.A. wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 6:33 pmTwo Films by Hong Sangsoo
What do you think of these two from the director?

It seems like a bunch of things currently for sale on the site had previously been thought to be OOP? Six Gothic Tales and Four Film Noir Classics boxes are listed as in-stock.

Good catch. Release date is in July, looks like they may be coming back into print?Drucker wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 7:24 pmIt seems like a bunch of things currently for sale on the site had previously been thought to be OOP? Six Gothic Tales and Four Film Noir Classics boxes are listed as in-stock.

Yes, it appears there is a slew of new and recent reissues in “standard editions” without the books. Surprised no one flagged these before, the Poe set was out in November!

Interesting because Four Film Noir doesn't call itself "standard edition" while the Kore-eda box set does.

But if you click the extras, the book (Or were they booklets? Can’t remember) is absent

Re: Arrow: Cheapest Prices/Best Places to Buy/Pre-Orders/Deals
This. I blind-bought the Arrow release when it was first announced and was a bit disappointed by the first film, though with even that brief acclimation Tale of Cinema was a huge improvement and continued to grow on me. After going through his entire filmography recently, including returning to these, they work even better in context. It's as good a jumping off point for him as any, and if you decide to go down the Hong rabbit hole (a commitment I highly recommend), they're great films to revisit.Michael Kerpan wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 7:46 pmAs long as one like Hong generally, these should be worth seeing.

Great prices, but shipping is expensive. I'll wait until after my first wave of B&N sale purchases.

The shipping costs are due to a recent price hike by both Royal Mail & the USPS.
I bought the reissued Six Gothic Tales boxset during their last sale, which is of course without the booklet (unfortunately). It's shrunk down too, with three standard size 2-disc cases & reversible artwork with each, a bit like how the Tsukamoto set was produced.

I have only seen The Day a Pig Fell into the Well from Hong. Maybe two years ago but don’t remember anything about it , I must be getting old although I am only 41.therewillbeblus wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 7:59 pmThis. Just noticed that I have a South Korean Blu-ray that includes In Another Country and Nobody's Daughter Haewon. Have to check it out soon.

Pig is VERY different from any of Hong's later films.

Yeah his first few films are not indicative of the rest. Nobody's Daughter Haewon is one of my favorites, but I know that's a minority opinion. I don't necessarily think I would think so highly of it without most of his filmography behind me at that point, as my favorite Hong moment comes directly in response to the context of his philosophy imprinted in a choice to take a 'second drink' and how this ethereal experience transcribes meaning.

No, I'm in the states! I think TMDaines was just adding that information onto your post.
