Knight of Cups (Terrence Malick, 2016)

#1 Post by Jeff » Tue Jun 05, 2012 7:33 pm

So, apparently, Knight of Cups is indeed filming at the same time as the "untitled indie-rock thriller" formerly known as Lawless. Set pics have started turning up. How cool would it be to see Christian Bale and Natalie Portman cruising down the street with Malick and Chivo in the back? Here's some earlier pics of Bale and Portman frolicking on the beach.

Thank you so much for posting these pictures. It allowed me to immediately recognize the car, Christian Bale, and then Terrence Malick chilling on the sidewalk when I left my apartment yesterday.

 Ha. I've lived here for a year, and he's only the second celebrity I've seen. So yes, i got a little excited. And I truly would've walked right by if I didn't spot the car.

We all need to take a moment to realize just how weird it is that Malick is making a hipster movie.

Well, I found out what Terrence Malick looks like without the hat on, so it wasn't a total loss.

So is it four movies he has in various stages of production now?

To the Wonder is completely finished and submitted to the MPAA. Voyage of Time is in some sort of post-production limbo. Knight of Cups is currently filming, while Untitled Indie Rock Thriller Formerly Known as Lawless shot some early scenes at music festivals, but has supposedly not started the bulk of principal photography yet. Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, and Wes Bentley are in both of the latter films, and so is a guy named Justin Wheelon who is listed as a character named "Jake" in both films. I can't help but think they are parts of the same epic film, companion pieces being filmed simultaneously, some bizarre ruse by Malick, or something.

Plenty of production photos here from the FB page of One Big Soul - An Oral History of Terrence Malick.

Hopefully with a new title. Unless this is about a drinking game.

And as expected no US distributor at this time.

Lots of Malick tropes, but also some Wolf Of Wall Street shenanigan-type stuff I wouldn't have expected to see in a Malick film. Looks like there may be some thematic resemblance to To The Wonder.

Looks like a combo of Malick and Mike Figgis and a chaser of ivansxtc, with all the most glorious stuff from each intact. A very nice combo indeed.

Well, that just shot to the top of my must-see list for 2015 (not that it had far to go).

I never thought I'd be saying that a Terrence Malick film looks incredibly sexy, but here I am
