I have never seen a filming notice with a brief plot synopsis on it before. They seldom mention the director, too.

It might just be a production title - other sources are reporting it as being "The Meyerowitz Stories."

This temp. title is Hindi for "Account of the Day," fwiw.

Do we think Dustin Hoffman is playing Adam Sandler's dad, or Ben Stiller's? Or both?

I am little confused! Why is he using HINDI language for the title?

I seriously want to ask him. Its kind of puzzling. I wish I could have met him this year instead of last year. We actually had an encounter during Aparajito screening at Film Forum. He seemed like a nice guy. Using a Hindi phrase for an English film is kind of loony, on the other hand.

I understand IMDb credits are often written in pencil, at best... but I have to report that IMDb says that Randy Newman will be composing the score to this.

Is there any chance this is at Cannes? I know Baumbach had While We're Young at Toronto two years ago but his films always struck me as something more like what does well at Sundance or even Tribeca rather than being mixed in with all the year-end awards-y stuff that often dominates the later festivals.

I was thinking the same thing not too long ago when reviewing this year's likely uninspiring American slate at Cannes (excluding Haynes---at least this year's slate won't reach 2012 or 2010 lows). His debut modus operandi this decade has been that of surprise and a Cannes debut would at least be consistent on that front, but, yeah, he does historically debut his films at North American festivals. This would easily be the starriest film on the Croisette and I can see Fremaux pushing Rudin for it. (Plus Baumbach clearly loves French films.) Baumbach does have a Tribeca talk with Dustin Hoffman next month though, so he could just as easily surprise debut it there, I suppose.

Also, the indications I'm seeing seems to indicate that The Meyerowitz Stories is the actual title and Yeh Din Ka Kissa was just a fun production title used on set.

Netflix has acquired it (and yes, it is officially called The Meyerowitz Stories)

does this now count as one of Netflix's Adam Sandler contract

(I am obsessed by the idea he could use his blank check to work with PTA again or something)

As someone who is a big fan of Baumbach, dependent on physical media (minus those rentals you can download), and likes to attend the theatre (even if they are showing some Turkish documentary on cats), this is not the best of news.

If Fremaux wants to continue to spurn Netflix, by all means. Surely there is a market for those who wish to rent DVDs/BDs?

Amazon would have happily worked with him, I'm sure, but I can see Netflix thirsting after more Sandler.

A lot of outlets are pegging the title as the pretentious The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) but, you know, it's just a title and it might have thematic relevance.

Early notices from Cannes are very good, with many singling out Adam Sandler as being at Punch-Drunk Love-level form in it.

Far be it from me to doubt Scott Rudin, but he easily could have delivered a nomination to Sandler if he platformed it from November onward! He still can: This seems the year where the membership will learn to suppress their legitimate complaints and at least not mind nominating Netflix in higher-profile categories; they could justify it by pointing out that it was an acquisition. In any event, now more than ever, Will Smith was placed on this jury to deliver a Cannes prize to Adam Sandler!

Will this be another Funny People and make you think "ah yes Sandler knows he makes crap and will stop making films just for the money!" and then he slides off to do Pixels 2 or something?

Why can’t he do both? There’s a pretty massive audience for Sandler’s usual work. I'm not sure why film geeks feel so possessive of Sandler, and begrudge him what's been a very successful living for him. He doesn't need to make any "art" films at all, so the fact that he has, and some of the ones he's made have been strong, is not some sort of damning evidence that he shouldn't be making the dumb movies that he wants to make.

Plenty do based on the accolades Frances Ha garnered. But great cheap shot work there
