Untitled Bill Hicks Biopic (Richard Linklater, 20XX)

Anyone have any casting ideas? This was pretty fun (but futile) for the Lucille Ball biopic...

I know Russell Crowe was very intent on playing him.

I think the newly slim-line Jonah Hill could be in with a shot (not that Hick's was exactly a rake)!
It's funny, but I wrote an unpublished piece about seven or eight years ago about the potential (and pitfalls) of a Hick's Biopic. This was around the time that Russell Crowe was threatening to direct (and star - as Hicks no less!) his own version of the late, great comedian's life. Thank god that one got canned when it did. Anyway, in the article I suggested that the worst thing for Bill's legacy would be the ignominy of the cornball Hollywood treatment . . . unless, they could get fellow Texan[*], Richard Linklater, to helm it!

Anyway, short version: this could actually be good!

[*] Yeah, I know he was born in Arkansas.

I don’t know why, but I thought I dimly remembered Sam Rockwell being attached to a Hicks film.

Hicks died at 32 - I feel as though Linklater might need to go into looking at some unknowns for this one, I can't think of an actor in his 20s/early-to-mid 30s who really looks much like Hicks.

Alex Lawther could be an inspired choice.

Someone said it on either Twitter or reddit, and I wish I thought of it. "Denis Leary, he already knows all of his lines"
