Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
Since my BFI Dreyer box just shipped, I'm guessing a Dreyer box with Day of Wrath, Ordet and Gertrud, plus The Passion of Joan of Arc and Vampyr.

Tomorrow is Friday, they hate announcing on Fridays. Why would they bump Thursday's announcements to Friday, unless they're having a meltdown at the headquarters.

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
I doubt they mind having to update Fridays when it's just the intern hitting the "update" button he neglected on Thursday...FrauBlucher wrote:Tomorrow is Friday, they hate announcing on Fridays. Those pesky interns. Don't they realize what a huge responsibility it is to let Criterion Nation get timely announcements. Sigh.

Nah, it's just intern tradition, like leaving the lights on the house after Christmas into April
Jokes aside, maybe their new "announce time" is the morning of the 16th. In other words, prep everything on the 15th, but don't put the info up until the next day since they've had many months that hit snags and required a push to the next day anyway.

Wasn't there something in recent times that CC bumped them two days but had Amazon put up pre-orders before officially announcing. Unless I'm misremembering (oh my, a Bushism).

How often do announcements actually fall on the 15th of the month anymore?

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
There was a Friday (maybe a year ago?) that was either the 15th or leading into a weekend where Sat/Sun was the 15th where the amazon.com listings went up, but the Criterion website didn't have anything up until Monday.FrauBlucher wrote:Wasn't there something in recent times that CC bumped them two days but had Amazon put up pre-orders before officially announcing. I wonder why they don't just do weekly announcements, one or two tiles per. Seems to work for Kino, and keeps people watching and talking online. Then too, if a week is missed, not so big a deal.

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
all they have to do is make 11 months full of crappy releases/dump months to lower people's expectations so no one will even care what they release and then finally in December just announce a 7 title schedule that is nothing but pure gold releases. And to quell the expectation that December is "the good month" every year there will be no consistent pattern and it could be years until there is actually a good december release month. This will greatly help to rid the people who absolutely cannot wait an extra day to see when Criterion will release Jellyfish Eyes 2.
