Eraserhead, which opened 40 years ago today, is playing in its new 4K restoration from this Friday through April 2 at the IFC.

It really is great to live in the NYC Metro area.

Re: New York City Repertory Cinema
This is extraordinarily off topic, but is the rodent problem at the IFC Center as bad as I've heard? Like, you can hear them during quiet moments of a film, can see them dashing through the aisles, etc?

Never seen a rodent the few times I have been to IFC.

I've seen only one. He was wearing a Flyers jersey. But was well mannered. He was quiet during the quiet moments.

I've been at the IFC dozens of times and I've neither seen nor heard anything about a rodent problem there.

IFC is however right above a subway station if you are in the market for rodents.

If the IFC had a rodent problem, they'd be selling tshirts about it

Re: New York City Repertory Cinema
I searched "mice" on their Yelp entry and am adequately satiated by the anecdotes there (hint: lots) but I'm glad to hear it isn't a given on any and all visits in case I ever need to go

I'm going to be hitting up a fair amount of their Lynch retrospective. The rats will be a nice touch.

Film Forum tweeted... They will screen Reservoir Dogs for it's 25th Anniversary on 35mm the last two weeks in May. It will be a hot ticket. Mfunk may have to come up to the dreaded NYC for this.

I liked two scenes. Beyond that, couldn't care less about that empty shell of a film.

Yeah, not much of a Reservoir Dogs fan either. I'll be up in NYC this upcoming weekend, though.

the new print that played Sundance earlier this year is screening at the New Beverly throughout April. It is being paired with various films, including City on Fire(!) and its unofficial Bollywood remake Kaante on some dates!

A Girl Is a Gun is playing as part of Lincoln Center's Jean-Pierre Leaud retrospective, but the English dub is playing. Can anyone comment about the quality of the dub? Just trying to figure out if this means I should 100% avoid it.

On the DVD, the French version didn't have subs, so I had to watch the dubbed version. It's awful, but so is the movie, so it couldn't be more fitting! Moullet prefers the English-language version, FYI

Well that's an endorsement if I ever heard one. It's playing with Eustache's Santa Claus Has Blue Eyes so I'm going for it.

I figure Moullet is avenging all the badly-dubbed American westerns he saw at the Cinematheque. Still, its a hoot if you're in the right frame of mind. The real rarity at that retrospective is La Concentration. Would love to see that but I'm in the wrong country. Hopefully it'll be the prelude to a DVD release (Re:Voir?!?).

That's hilarious and no I haven't experienced this, but feel like I'm missing out now.mfunk9786 wrote:This is extraordinarily off topic, but is the rodent problem at the IFC Center as bad as I've heard? I just hope IFC replaced those shitty broken seats that were sunk down to the floor level. This was in one of the bigger (but not the biggest) screening rooms, and they were near the center of the theater.

Re: New York City Repertory Cinema
From what I understand they're supposed to be renovating the place.
Rodent invasion or nah I've always thought IFC was a dump with an infestation problem of peasants from Brooklyn so I'm not surprised to hear the rats have followed. Those bastards probably brought them in with their messenger bags.
Let's cleanse our palates here and talk about places that don't require you to shower the second you get home, anybody ever hit the Cinepolis on 23rd and 8th? Now that place is doing it right.

I'll be in NYC this August, what are the cinemas I should try my best to get to? I'm looking for 35mm retrospective more than just whatever will be released during August. I know it's a long way off for the cinemas to release their calendars but what are the most highly praised cinemas?

Check the calendars of the Museum of Modern Art, Museum of the Moving Image in Queens, BAM Cinematek in Brooklyn, and Anthology Film Archives. If you're willing to head upstate, the George Eastman Museum in Rochester is a must.

Re: New York City Repertory Cinema
I've been in the Rocky Horror shows at that theatre and have seen the dirtiest, dingiest corners of that place. They're all rather clean. Clean-up crew is on duty well past 2am.Black Hat wrote:Let's cleanse our palates here and talk about places that don't require you to shower the second you get home, anybody ever hit the Cinepolis on 23rd and 8th?
