But isn't a bad cover for what surely promises to be a horrible film going to be one of the things that gets it sold, thus catapulting it to a "good" cover? :D

It's just a Best Buy exclusive steelbook, but that doesn't make it any less hideous.

Huh. That's actually the same mocked-up cover Edgar Wright's original script had. I remember because it's incredibly rare, and even somewhat ballsy, for a screenplay to have an illustrated cover.

Tom Cruise is confused while quad-pupiled mummy looks on.

The Return of the Living Dead actually looks ok, but the rest are a travesty.

Holy shit, those Fox/MGM covers are a whole load of atrocious shit. How could anyone think those look good?

I swore there was a thread for good covers on this site, but couldn't find it. I have to share the outrageous, very NSFW online-only cover for Lucio Fulci's The Devil's Honey.

My wife works at a lady hospital. They had a woman who died from having her husband literally blow up there after giving birth. Some kind of crazy embolism. So having somebody play the Benny Hill theme into your vagina seems ill advised, no matter how sexy it sounds.

I believe that that The Devil's Honey cover is actual poster art, not something created for the Blu-ray. There is also this variation on that poster

Fans who purchase any of the films at Walmart will also receive an exclusive coloring book featuring all 19 of Arocena's designs.
What family night would be complete without a double feature of Black Swan and Jennifer's Body as the kids color away?

Unless there are multiple movies where saxophones are played into vaginas, that poster reminded me that I saw this on Cinemax or something when I was around 10 years old. That image made it all come flooding back!

I kind of love in that cover for The Mummy that the tip of the pyramid is given a Cruise-eyeline distracting lens flare! Does it all go Stargate-y in the film itself?

There's one heck of a frustrated tattoo artist working in their art department.

I don't think the artwork itself is bad per se, but its another one of those 'only makes sense from a brand/marketing point of view' things, where so many disparate films with their own aesthetics are being shoehorned into fitting an art designer's narrow conception of them. Its almost the opposite of a Criterion point of view where, whatever our point of view of the actual success of those covers ( ), they're definitely being tailored to the specific film that is being sold. Here with the uniform stylisation there's almost nothing to tell a potential purchaser whether they're getting a harrowing gritty piece like The Hills Have Eyes (though its the slightly less gritty remake rather than the original) or arguably 28 Days Later, classic existential body horror with Black Swan, From Beyond and The Fly, or goofy comic pieces like Return of the Living Dead, or Killer Clowns! Or Young Frankenstein, which is the truly leftfield pick from that company! (Maybe that's why the head is facing slightly to one side in comparison to all the others). Then there's a bunch of modern pap to lure in the unwary or undiscriminating collector, like Devil's Due or The Other Side of the Door.

Its another one of those approaches that reminds me of publishers re-printing books with different covers to obscure the content within or appeal to a narrowly defined demographic (like printing Romeo & Juliet with a Twilight-esque cover), or lure the unwary (or unsure of whether they've seen this particular version of Carrie because just from sight alone the artwork, or even looking at the other films its being bundled in with, could mean either the 1974 or 2011 version) into buying the same thing again on an impulse purchase. Its almost as if they're not confident enough in the source material to let it be itself, for better or worse. Or its just change for the sake of change, and a few extra sales.

Oh, and I love that Fulci cover! (With its own eyeline-distracting added lens flare/sparkles!) I presume playing that way provides the good vibrations as well as a pleasing echoey effect to the music! Brings a whole new meaning to Young Man With A Horn!

I'm going to spam Cohen's design person/team with this link until things change.
