Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics Acquisitions
I think the Kino rep said on the Blu-ray forum that they tried to get The Man Who Laughs but couldn't. Don't know if it is already with another label or if Universal intends to release it themselves (doubtful)

I suppose the smart money would be on the 1932 title (s?) being Ford's Air Mail or Murders in the Rue Morgue, but I have my fingers crossed for Edward L. Cahn's Afraid to Talk

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics Acquisitions
Kino's pull with Universal is apparently pretty poor:
We asked for The Big Clock, Black Angel, The Blue Dahlia, Criss Cross, The Glass Key, The Lost Weekend, Phantom Lady and This Gun For Hire and none were available to us.

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics Acquisitions
hopefully the reason they could not get those titles is that Arrow Academy has some noir plans of a significant nature.

Or Criterion might have gotten at least one or two of those noirs. I seem to recall that directors Frank Tuttle (This Gun for Hire) and George Marshall (The Blue Dahlia) had phantom pages in the past. What A Disgrace wrote: ↑Fri Jul 13, 2018 8:33 pmhopefully the reason they could not get those titles is that Arrow Academy has some noir plans of a significant nature.

That's even better. Maybe Criterion's next big project is a hell of a noir box.AfterTheRain wrote: ↑Sat Jul 14, 2018 1:15 amOr Criterion might have gotten at least one or two of those noirs. Here are the big Universal titles I'm hoping for:
Closet Land
The Great Gatsby (1949 Alan Ladd version)
Play it as it Lays/Diary of a Mad Housewife
At Play in the Fields of the Lord
Puzzle of a Downfall Child
Red Sky at Morning
Two Small Bodies

Have you seen the list? We have many great titles in the deal, including a bunch of essentials. They cannot license titles to us that they plan to release themselves or ones they've already licensed to others.domino harvey wrote: ↑Fri Jul 13, 2018 5:18 pmKino's pull with Universal is apparently pretty poor:We asked for The Big Clock, Black Angel, The Blue Dahlia, Criss Cross, The Glass Key, The Lost Weekend, Phantom Lady and This Gun For Hire and none were available to us.

Roger Moore (Live and Let Die, Street People) and Susannah York (The Killing of Sister George) star in this explosive 1974 international conspiracy thriller, set in the South African goldfields and directed by Peter Hunt (On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Death Hunt). A ruthless global cabal of financial investors plans to manipulate the price of gold on the world market – by sabotaging one of South Africa’s top gold mines and flooding it with millions of gallons of water. All they need is someone to take the blame. Manager Rod Slater (Moore) seems the perfect choice. He’s brash, rough and impulsive – just the sort of man to make a fatal mistake. As Slater embarks on an affair with Terry (York), the heiress granddaughter of mine owner Hurry Hirschfeld (Ray Milland, Panic in Year Zero!), the conspiracy tightens all around him and thousands of lives hang by a thread... Based on a best-selling novel by Wilbur Smith (Dark of the Sun, Shout at the Devil) and filmed entirely on location in South Africa, Gold is an unforgettable thriller with a breathtaking climax and a fantastic cast which also includes John Gielgud (The Whistle Blower) and Bradford Dillman (Compulsion).
