Looks like one of the Alex De La Iglesia titles is Perdita Durango. According to Severin's facebook page, an uncensored director's cut will play next month at the Fantasia International Film Festival.

I understand that Severin's release of The Changeling had issues with both the film disc and the soundtrack disc, and have a disc replacement program. My recently purchased set has a soundtrack disc with a "V2" on the label, but the film disc does not. So far I have had no response from Severin.

Does anyone have the replacement film disc? Could you confirm whether it has a "V2" on the label or whether there is any other indication that it is a replacement disc? Thanks.

The replacement disc has V2 on it. But you're better off without it.

More info & an email address for the replacement program here.

I’m sure Glowingwabbit might provide more detail on the result if you prod them.

I understand that the replacement disc fixes some dropped frames and missing soundtrack problems in the 5.1 mix. Could you provide some details as to why I’m “better off without it”?

The replacement footage is unrestored, so it has some dirt and/or scratches and, if I'm remembering correctly, the reel change marker is present.

If the replacement disc is to fix a dropped frame and some 5.1 soundtrack issues, is your statement regarding Severin’s release as a whole, or specifically the “V2” disc that somehow got an entirely different transfer on it.

Could someone provide some specifics please?

I'm just going by what I've read on the Blu-ray.com forums, but I think it is only the part that fixes the missing frames that has not been cleaned up, not the whole disc. I haven't watched the disc, but I do own it. So, I'll try and watch it tonight and I'll let you know if the dirty frames are just in the replacement section or if it is the whole film.

In answer to my own question on The Changeling replacement disc program, I found the following on DVDbeaver, which I had missed before:
UPDATE (10/10/18): "When fixing the audio, Severin did a new encode of the
video and inadvertently used their copy of the master pre-cleanup of the
scratches and cue marks present on the negative. Check back here for any
response." (sent in email by Kerry - thanks!)
That would explain why new copies are being sent out with the corrected V2 Soundtrack disc but not a corrected Film disc — they screwed up the transfer/encode when they manufactured the V2 Film disc.

Yeah, I'm watching V2. I'm 40 minutes in and cue marks are visible at both reel changes. So it appears the whole thing is "unrestored"

You know, while I only saw it for the first time a few years ago, I could see it working as a ‘kids’ movie. Traumatic perhaps, but all the best kids films are.

I love the logo! They should at the very least retroactively induct BMX Bandits into the line. Not seen it since the ‘80’s, but I still have good memories of it.

So it's a "kids" label in the same way as Shout's Gkids is.

I really want The Blood on Satan's Claw, but Severin has burned me too many times to pre-order any of their stuff without waiting for reviews.

The upcoming 4k scans of ‘80s Franco films Cries of Pleasure and Night of Open Sex sound essential.

Gemidos de placer (Cries of Pleasure) on Million Dollar Video is one of the rarest tapes on my collection as far as I know, but it has no subs. Loved the movie anyways back when I was a big time Francofile. It’s one of Franco’s most minimalistic.

Ah, wasn’t certain Cries of Pleasure was Gemidos de Placer. Heard great things about this rarity.

I'm in agreement with all of Richard Stanley's choices there, though I would have foisted Wild Beasts on him!

It has been a while since I saw Baskin and need to revisit it before making a proper assessment but that might be the only one I could potentially quibble with, as I remember thinking that it went a bit too readily into all of the torture material. But I seem to recall that it has that de rigeur cyclical structure to it and also casually wondering (though this is really probably just me) whether it was inspired by Inception (or perhaps Carnival of Souls) in one way:
SpoilerShow
in that the bulk of the film appeared to take place in the suspended out of time moment of a police van crashing into a river

I remember quite liking Baskin, but reading your post, I'm not sure I really remember it that well at all. I feel like I saw it around the same time as a couple of similar (maybe? - Der Samurai & The Void I think) films and they're all jumbled up into one crazy genre production. Stanley does pick out some great choices though; the only one I've not seen is The Stunt Man, which I'll eventually have to change.
